More sales. More protection. Less effort.

A Letter From James Micklethwait, CEO

The way parents buy school and sports photography has changed. In fact, over 80% of shop visitors are on a phone, and that’s where the majority of orders are placed. They expect it to be quick and easy. That means you need a mobile-first shop that works the way they actually buy, and tools that help you earn more from every picture day, not just book more of them.

That’s why we built the newest GotPhoto Online Shop. It has become the primary focus of our e-commerce platform, and the future of how photographers will sell online with GotPhoto. Built as the heart of our e-commerce engine, it’s proven to help photographers increase revenue per subject through smarter upselling, conversion-focused shopping experiences, and streamlined workflows that reduce operational complexity.

And now it is time to share an important update: at the end of July, we will be retiring the legacy online shop, and the “new shop” will officially become the only GotPhoto online shop (an exact date will be shared soon). This transition is part of our commitment to keeping everyone on one modern platform for the future.

Read on to see why we’re making the move.

Why It’s Time to Make the Move

The new GotPhoto Online Shop has been battle-tested over two full seasons and is already used by the majority of our photographers. That means it’s been proven on real picture days, real volumes, and real parent expectations.

It also performs better. Photographers using the GotPhoto Online Shop see a 10% increase in revenue per job on average. This performance improvement is achieved through higher AOV, more shoppers being exposed to packages first, and higher order rate on mobile devices thanks to the mobile-first design.

It offers features the legacy shop simply doesn’t have, like:

  • Native Content Protection: Built-in screenshot blocking on desktop and long-click disabled on mobile. No plugin, no setup.
  • Consent Popups on Every Device: A friendly reminder to visitors that your work is legally protected. Available on both desktop and mobile.
  • Professional AI Retouching: Customers can polish their photos right after checkout, which means upselling with no manual retouching from you.

Plus features photographers have been asking for, like:

  • SnapShield Compatibility: Full compatibility with SnapShield*.
  • Cart Abandonment Triggers: Gentle reminders bring back parents who left items behind, so you don’t lose sales you almost had.
  • Advanced Watermarks: Smart, hard-to-remove watermarks that get refreshed every season.

Everything You Loved, Now in One Place

For the last two years, our team has been stretched thin. Running two online shops meant our best new ideas, features, and improvements were split between two places, instead of all landing in one.

We’re happy to share that the GotPhoto Online Shop now has the most valuable features from the legacy shop, plus a few that go further.

  • Shopping Across Multiple Jobs: Parents with kids in different schools or sports can buy everything in one transaction.
  • Personalized Products: Customers can add custom text to personlizable products like prints or trader cards.
  • Global Access Codes: Provide access to all images in a job through a single access code. (Albums coming before the fall season.)
  • Mandatory Packages and Minimum Order Values: Guide customers toward the packages you want to sell, and make sure every order pulls its weight.
  • Edit in Cart: Customers can crop and edit photos and replace products before they check out.
  • Wishlist: Customers can save favorites while they browse and come back when they’re ready to buy.

With everything you need now in the GotPhoto Online Shop, it’s time to make the move. Our goal is simple: one modern shop that helps you sell more, save time, and gives customers a better experience from start to finish.

If you’re still on the legacy shop, now is the best time to start exploring the GotPhoto Online Shop. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing resources, feature updates, and support options to help make your transition as smooth as possible.

Built for What’s Next

Now that the rebuild is complete, our team is focused fully on what’s ahead. With one strong platform underneath us, we’re already building the future of e-commerce for volume photography, and we have something exciting in the works that we can’t wait to share. More on that very soon.

More revenue per subject. More modern shopping. More time back in your day.

Because modern photography businesses don’t grow by just taking more photos, they grow by getting more out of every picture day. And that’s what we’re here to help you do.
